Medical Volunteer with APTA New York Greater NY District at the NYC Marathon

The Greater New York District of APTA New York is volunteering as a Medical Group for the NYC Marathon (through New York Road Runners) at this years 50th Anniversary of the Marathon! You will register here with us so we know who is in our group, and then you will be emailed specific instructions on how to register as part of OUR group. This race commemorates 50 years of the iconic five-borough course, which first brought the marathon through all five boroughs in 1976.

Medical Volunteers for this event will receive one of each of the following items:

  • NYRR-branded marathon jacket
  • T-shirt
  • Event credential
  • Commemorative pin.


Responsibilities

Assist with muscle cramps, gentle massage, stretching, and other appropriate modalities.


Requirements

  • Photo connected to profile of NYRR.
  • Licensure in the United States valid on / through event date.
  • Up-to-date CPR certification required.


Please Note: Students are not eligible to volunteer for this event. 


In-Person Training

*MANDATORY*

NYRR training Medical volunteers is on either Saturday, October 17, 2026, or Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Manhattan, at various times. Training options are released to you after you register. There are NO virtual options.

How long are the volunteer shifts for the TCS New York City Marathon?

Shift times vary by location on the course.


Is food provided?

NYRR provides volunteers with a bagel breakfast and coffee when they check in. For longer races such as the TCS New York City Marathon, they also provide a bagged lunch that includes a vegetarian option. If you have specific dietary restrictions, we ask that you bring your own food.


What do I need to bring/wear on the day of my shift?

NYRR asks volunteers to wear unbranded scrubs and closed-toe shoes. Please dress for the weather; you will be outside for part of the shift, and tents are not temperature-controlled. On colder days, please wear layers. If a T-shirt or Jacket is provided for that event, you must wear it during your shift.
