Leadership Development Workshop | 2027

The 2027 APTA New York Delegate Assembly (DA) is being held on Saturday, June 5th. The DA is the highest deliberative body of the APTA New York. At this annual event, Chapter officials are elected and both Chapter/Association (House of Delegates) motions are discussed and debated.

As physical therapists position themselves as movement experts in an ever-changing health care climate, there must be a unified commitment to “Transform Society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience.”  With a firm understanding of how the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and its components, including the APTA New York, are structured and function you will be able to set a path of involvement to be a much-needed voice of transformation.  

The APTA New York Leadership Committee is once again sponsoring an exciting & free opportunity for all PT's and PTA's looking to experience the process by attending our Leadership Development Workshop! This workshop will include a Leadership component as well as a Governance component with a mock Delegate Assembly to gain the knowledge of proper protocol for DA.


Objectives for Leadership Development Workshop

At the completion of this program participants are expected to be able to:

  • Describe the evolution of the APTA from inception to present
  • Examine the challenges and demands on the profession of Physical Therapy today
  • Describe the organizational structure of the APTA
  • Describe the roles of the various components, task forces, work groups, etc.
  • Examine the future of physical therapy as it impacts and is impacted by the Healthcare system.
  • Identify areas in which to be meaningfully involved in a self-fulfilled way
  • Describe the basic principles of Robert’s Rules of Order (RRO) 
  • Understand Governance Structures of APTA/APTA New York
  • Apply RRO to: Create Motions, Participate in Debate & Participate in Voting/Election


Format for Leadership Development Workshop

There is a pre-recorded portion of the Leadership Development Workshop that you will need to watch prior to the live session. After watching the pre-recordings you will need to complete 2 separate post-tests. Completion of watching the pre-recordings as well as the post-tests are required to be eligible to receive CE credit. This portion must be completed no later than Monday, May 31st, 2027 at Midnight.

  • All materials will be emailed to you directly from the APTA New York Chapter Office on May 10th 2027

Those who have completed the pre-recordings and posttests by May 27th will then need to attend our in-person session. This will be held in-person at the Embassy Suites Saratoga Springs Hotel on Friday, June 4th, 2027 from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

After the live session concludes those eligible will receive an email with a link to our course evaluation. This evaluation must be completed no later than Friday, June 11th, 2027 at Midnight in order to receive continuing education credit for this workshop. 

Participants who attend/complete all portions of the Leadership Development Workshop will receive 3.6 CEH’s. If you do not complete all potions of this event by their deadlines you will be ineligible to receive CE credit.
